We are proud to offer for sale this iconic Alpine, a rare oportunity for all those looking to buy a competition Alpine with pedigree.
After some years competing with the 1300 and 1400 A110’s in the Spanish Rally Championship, FASA Renault decided it was time to change and enter a machine capable to fight for the Championship now that competence was getting more and more fierce. Lancia Stratos, Porsche and the back then ultra powerfull SEAT Competition team were the main rivals and there was no chance an underpowered 1.3 Alpine could compete with them.
So the way to go was the Alpine 1800 Gr.4 that proved to be so succesful at international level and inestead of bringing a car already prepared from Dieppe, FASA decided to prepare the car in the Valladolid factory. FASA was one of the few Renault factories allowed to build the Alpine A110 and the Berlinettes manufactured there always had very good reputation, with a very high quality build standard.
The idea proved to be right from the very first special stage, where the FASA Alpine 1800 did the fastest time but unfortunately went off the road on the second stage.
For the 1975 season, FASA Renault team had all the ingredients to fight for the Championship with a very good car and a very good driver line up, leaded by the talented Juan Carlos Pradera (runner up in 1974 with SEAT) and supported by the reliable ex Spanish Champion Lucas Sainz. They were indeed the favourites to win the Championship but a mix of nimial mechanical failures and accidents ruined their hopes.
VA-0524-C was entered in at least 8 rallyes driven by both drivers achieving a 2nd overall in Rallye Fallas with Pradera and 3rd overall in Rally of Spain with Sainz.
After that season, FASA Renault decided not to continue in the Spanish Rallye Championship for the next year and the cars were sold to privateers in 1976.
VA-0524-C was bought by Miguel Martínez who had an unveliebable success over the next years driving the ex Works Alpine wining many rallyes and hillclimbs. In 1977 he won Rallye Ciudad de Leon, Rallye de Primavera, Rallye de Segovia, Rallye Costa Esmeralda, Rallye Firestone-Teruel, among other pódium finishes. 1978 and 1979 were as succesful as the previous year, including victory in Rally Villa de Llanes 1979 among others.
In 1987 the car is bought by its current owner, an Alpine enthusiast who kept the car with pride and took it to several exhibitions and events over the years, including the 50th Alpine Aniversary celebration at Le Mans where it was invited by Renault as a star guest in the Alpine Renault stand.
Very well documented history with lots of period magazine features and photos, this Alpine would make a nice adition to any classic or competition car collection. Elegible for multiple events, still could be very quick while nice to drive and relatively affordable to maintain.
